PROBLEMSWITH CLIENTS ATTITUDES: Career guidance practitioners struggle with behavioural problems and lack of motivation and interest from their clients. Coaching strategies and techniques such as positive psychology and NLP methods are not widely used to change mind-set of clients in Slovakia, Spain and Cyprus. “We don´t have enough mechanisms and techniques to motivate our clients” (Katarína, Slovakia) LACK OF FURTHER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES: One of the targets under the strategic framework for European cooperation and training (ET 2020) is that, at European level, an average of at least 15 % of adults should participate in lifelong learning by 2020. The latest results from the European Union (EU) labour force survey show that in 2018 the participation rate in the EU stood at 11.1 %. For example, in Slovakia the rate is 4%, Spain 10.4%, Cyprus 6.7% and the UK 14.6%. In other words, adult participation in lifelong learning should increase so individuals can enhance their skills and competences at any career level. Testimonial: Is career guidance and coaching a developing field in your country? The traditional method of career guidance does not lead to empowering or to personal autonomy of our clients (Ana, Spain) LACK OF SOFT-SKILLS TRAINING to deal with the challenges of their profession: Generally, there is much variation in the level of training guidance professionals receive between and within countries. This differs in the training, roles and qualifications required to offer first line training to clients. Some career guidance practitioners have finished formal basic and general education, others have undergone certified short courses, whilst others may not have much knowledge in the area (OECD, 2001). Some guidance workers are members of a professional institute whilst others may be limited to experience as a volunteer. This lack of training can make it increasingly difficult to assess needs and soft skills in clients. The identification of needs and skills can vary across contexts and individuals, and it has been found that the procedures can be difficult to navigate. Therefore, the lack of training can hinder the ability of guidance professional to support a client (OECD, 2019). 13 qualifyproject.eu
