[Project Number: 2017-1-SK01-KA204-035385] • Bimrose, Jenny, & Barnes, Sally-Anne, (2008) “Adult Career Progession and Advancement: A Five Year Study of the Effectiveness of Guidance” Bimrose and Barnes provide a list of recommendations for policy improvements (5) as well as at the professional level (8) and at the level of training. At the training level they advocate more specifically for: o “novice practitioners are supported to implement effective practice that systematically integrates face-to-face intensive support services with the use of ICT web-based facilities; o students and training participants are required to build on findings about what clients regard as effective practice and think more creatively about new ways of reaching out, and connecting with larger volumes of potential end users; The current career guidance programmes for low-skilled adults: • Career Analysts proposes career management programs very individualized. They always start relations with their clients with a “comprehensive review of the current situation” to “quantify [one’s] individual preferences, strengths and weaknesses” and agree with them on appropriate and tailored program. The second stage is a one-to-one counselling session. The third is a “self-marketing” course for all. • Career Connect is a non-profit offering “individual and bespoke options as well as a fully funded National Careers Service”. They offer one-to-one physical counselling as well as by phone. Their program Carrus is an online program for measure abilities and skills from home. • LearnDirect is a private entity offering free governmental-financed to help return into work either by focusing on job seeking and employability skills or on job specific qualification (e.g. retail certificate). LearnDirect provides practice-focused courses but every client has a personal online tutor regularly reviewing progress. However LearnDirect received poor results and was deemed inadequate in a recent Ofsted report • BRIDGE is an Erasmus+ project aiming to “building up regional initiatives to develop guidance for low-skilled adults” by strengthening the network between local and regional authorities and career guidance institutes, the development of a handbook giving career coaches an overview of measures to support the up-skilling of low-skilled adults. • The UK has a National Careers Service providing online advice as well as the possibility to speak to an advisor. The National Career Council used to advise the UK government on improving careers provision for young people and adults in England. It has now closed. • The Career Development Institute is a UK-wide professional body for the training of career coaches. • The Center for Occupational Research and Development is the bases of the Adult Career Pathway (ACP) program in the United States.
