SLOVAKIA Career guidance and counseling services have a long tradition in Slovakia (until 1992 part of Czechoslovakia or Czech and Slovak Federal Republic). First career guidance and counseling facilities have been established even in late 1920´s. The current system of guidance and counseling started to develop in 1957 and since then it was under permanent development to todays´ network of services covering nearly all ages and problems variety 4 . Career guidance in Slovakia is covered mainly by two sectors: educational sector and sector of employment services. Services organized under the responsibility of ministries and/or regional governments are available to various groups of citizens and are free of charge. Some services are offered also by private sector, as well as by NGOs. Offices of Labour, Social Affairs and Family provide also counseling services, focusing mostly on disadvantaged groups of job seekers. Long-term unemployed (people without a job for more than 12 months) as well as low skilled and low qualified people would fall under this category.
